George Anastasia is a New York Times bestselling, Pulitzer Prize-nominated, former journalist for The Philadelphia Inquirer who 60 Minutes called “one of the most respected crime reporters in the country” in 2004. In 2024, he was introduced at The Mob Museum in Las Vegas as being “on the Mount Rushmore of American mob historians.” Over the past several decades, he has been featured as an expert on organized crime on a plethora of documentaries, radio, and television shows.
However: In January 2015, while sitting on his arrogant perch, he published Gotti’s Rules. A book full of verifiable lies about former New York mob associate, murderer, and demented pathological liar turned government witness: John Alite.
The first draft of it was written by a pedophile.
——
While promoting the book after it came out, like it was a true story, Anastasia wrote a falsehood-filled article in JerseyMan Magazine, titled: The Story Behind Gotti’s Rules. Which opened with the following:
——
“HE CALLED ME on the phone and said he had a story to tell. He wanted to know if I’d be interested in writing it. This was almost two years ago.
I jumped at the chance.
That’s how I first met John Alite.”
John Alite’s older brother Jimmy Alite, who I interviewed, told a different story. He said that corrupt former Philadelphia FBI Agent Dave Gentile, a good, longtime friend of Anastasia’s, and a close, longtime friend of his brother’s, sold the book to Anastasia “like a bad stock.” He said that Anastasia was reluctant to write Alite’s story at first. He knew it was bullshit. But Gentile kept selling it to him, and in time, Anastasia bought it.
Why? It’s not entirely clear. One journalist who sits on the Advisory Council of The Mob Museum told me “George was bat shit crazy” for writing that book. After all, Anastasia was a respected journalist. While Alite was a discredited government witness. One who was caught in numerous lies under cross-examination during John Gotti Jr.’s federal racketeering trial in 2009. Exposed not as the smooth underworld hitman and drug-dealing mob kingpin he claimed to be, but as a murderous, twisted, lower-level associate who Gotti chased from his crew in 1991.
Gotti was not acquitted of the three murders he was charged with, which Alite testified Gotti ordered. But after the trial ended in a hung jury, juror Paul Peragine, an attorney, said of Alite to reporters outside the courthouse: “For the most part almost the entire jury didn’t believe the star witness, he wasn’t credible at all.”
——
Maybe Anastasia did it for the money. Something I say, because in 2015 mob books weren’t selling like they used to. Book deals – the good ones at least – weren’t as easy to come by. But Jimmy Alite said that he believed Anastasia received a $100,000 advance from Harper Collins, from which he paid Alite “30 or $40,000.” In violation of the Son of Sam Law.
Beyond the royalties a best-selling book could bring, Alite and Anastasia apparently saw a multi-million-dollar movie deal in their future. Because Gotti’s Rules would have made a great movie. It just wouldn’t have been a truthful one, as Alite was not the former high-level drug trafficker, swaggering mob assassin, and “good bad guy” he claimed to be.
Jimmy Alite said that there was a different foreword to the book than the one published in 2015. He said that one day at his apartment, his brother read him “the first foreword to the book,” and he laughed. He said he told his brother it was “horrible,” and he better have Anastasia change it, because he was “basically saying” he didn’t believe John Alite. He wasn’t vouching for his stories.
——
Whatever the case: George Anastasia, after the book was published, went on a media tour where he presented John Alite as a credible individual. When asked why he believed Alite’s story, in March 2015, sitting next to him on the television show One on One with Steve Adubato, Anastasia answered:
“A couple of different reasons, Steve. One I read all the testimony, the transcripts of the two trials he testified at… the Junior Gotti trial in ’09, the Charles Carneglia trial in ’09… I’ve read all of those transcripts, all of the testimony in those trials. I reviewed documents. I talked to John at length… I sat down with this guy for hour upon hour upon hour and the only thing I said to him is, John you don’t have to sugarcoat this, just tell me the truth. And I believe he did, and the federal government believes he does.”
The facts are that the federal government does not consider John Alite truthful. He provided information on over 200 people in his debriefings, but they never again called him to testify after the Gotti defense, fronted by attorney Charles Carnesi, a true gentleman I had the pleasure of meeting, made him look like a fool on the witness stand under cross-examination in late 2009. Where he was caught in lie after lie and contradiction after contradiction.
Prior to that, at the Carneglia trial in February 2009, Alite admitted under cross-examination that trying to discredit his lifelong friends, he told horrendous lies about them – to his own lawyer.
John Alite accused his friends of raping and killing women and admitted that he assaulted numerous women. His oldest son who I interviewed even told me that one time, his father “smashed” his mother’s leg in a car door.
Which Anastasia left out of their book. He presented Alite as the anti-hero he claimed to be in his direct testimony, leaving out how he was exposed as a deranged liar under cross-examination.
Below: John Alite testifies about assaulting women at the Carneglia trial.
——
George Anastasia also printed stories that contradicted Alite’s direct testimony.
For instance: He wrote that Alite became a government cooperator in 2007. Which Alite testified to. Even though he was a confidential informant during the 1990s. Most likely since the 1980s.
——
John Gotti Jr., accused by the Feds of being the former acting boss of the Gambino family, was indicted in 2004 on racketeering charges. He then fought three trials in that case between 2005-2006, all of which ended with hung juries. Which embarrassed the lying, corrupt FBI Agent behind them, Ted Otto.
——
In 2008: Otto saw that Gotti was indicted again. This time, based on the verifiable lies of John Alite. On Gotti’s orders, he said he murdered Queens, NY drug dealer George Grosso in 1988, arranged the murder of Queens, NY drug dealer Bruce Gotterup in 1991, and took part in the conspiracy to murder alleged Gambino soldier Louis DiBono, pictured below, in 1990.
——
Whether or not Gotti had anything to do with those murders, there was a lack of reason to believe John Alite’s disastrous testimony, and his version of events. It is also believed that Alite lied that he took part in the DiBono murder conspiracy with the prosecution’s knowledge. To portray himself as a mob “hitman,” and make himself more credible in the eyes of the jury, to finally convict Gotti… and, to sell more books and movie tickets upon his release.
However: In December 2009 that case ended in another hung jury. Adding to Otto’s embarrassment.
——
It is believed by numerous defense attorneys that Alite providing information to the FBI in the 1990s was covered up prior to the 2008 indictment. Most likely, because Alite took part in an array of violent crimes while he was an FBI informant in the 1990s. Including the 1996 murder of drug dealer John Gebert. Which could have discredited him, and the prosecution.
FBI informants are not supposed to partake in violent crimes, let alone drug murders.
John Alite was propped up on the witness stand in 2009 as a fictional version of himself. The prosecution, hoping to convict Gotti based on Alite’s lies, presented him as something he was not. But just before the trial began, Agent Otto produced an FBI 302 memo stating that Alite told him accused mob soldier “Tony Pepp” Trentacosta received information from a Police Officer that he was an informant “in approximately 1990.”
Of Note: The memo does not say that Alite denied being an informant “in approximately 1990.”
——
That document was most likely produced because the prosecution believed the defense was going to assert that the government was covering up Alite’s cooperation in the 1990s. Since at least late 1991, when Gotti Jr. chased Alite from his crew.
As for Alite’s testimony about Dave Gentile, who retired from the FBI in 2003— he testified under cross-examination that he first met Gentile in “’99 or 2000.” Something Alite and Gentile backed up in a Forbes.com story about their friendship in 2020.
——
But writer Richard Behar, an admitted contact of Gentile’s since 1990, reported that Alite and Gentile said they were just friends. Not that Alite was Gentile’s informant. He reported that they met by chance:
“As they recall, it was in late 1999 or early 2000 and took place at a hockey rink not far from their respective New Jersey homes. Alite’s son Jimmy (then 10), and Gentile’s grandson Nicky (then age 7 and being raised by his grandparents), were at a practice match. The men engaged in small talk while watching their kids play…
A friendship blossomed. The men attended Yankee games, a Tyson fight, and meals together.”
Behar even wrote that Gentile would bring his grandson to John Alite’s house. But if that was the case, there were no FBI 302 memos documenting that they were hanging out between 1999-2003 that were turned over to the defense attorneys who cross-examined Alite. Something Gentile surely would have memorialized even if they were just friends. Because what would have happened if Gentile was caught on law enforcement surveillance hanging out with Alite, a murderous, mob-associated criminal and he didn’t tell his colleagues?
The Department of Justice would have wondered if Dave Gentile was compromised. He could have been fired from the FBI and denied his pension.
The fact that no documentation was provided to the defense attorneys in the 2009 trials establishing that Alite and Gentile were meeting between 1999-2003 helped make them believe there was a cover up. Especially since Alite testified that after a while he was “talking to him every day.”
That being said: Even though Alite testified that he met Gentile in “’99 or 2000,” Anastasia wrote in his book that Alite met Gentile in or about 2002.
However: John Alite stated during a September 2015 presentation at The Mob Museum: “I have a really dear friend that helped me who’s an ex-FBI agent… he’s like an older brother to me, he’s done the right thing my whole life… That’s Dave Gentile… He’s a guy that never gave up on me, even when I wouldn’t listen to him for 20 years, he never gave up on me.”
Then: In a later interview with John Ricciutti, during an unguarded moment, Alite said that he met Gentile “in the early ‘90s.” When Alite was living in South Jersey, just outside of Philadelphia, where Gentile was investigating organized crime.
In the Acknowledgements section of Gotti’s Rules, Anastasia wrote: “Over the years, there have been dozens of law enforcement and underworld sources on whom I have depended for insights and for “reality checks.” They were again invaluable in the writing of this book, but for various reasons have opted to remain anonymous. One source and good friend, however, was quoted by name. Dave Gentile, a retired FBI agent who helped dismantle the Philadelphia mob, has always been there for me. I appreciate that in so many ways. He was also instrumental in making the connection between John Alite and me and for that I thank him.”
——
It should be noted that Dave Gentile did not just connect Anastasia with Alite. Gentile fostered the connection between Anastasia and Nick “The Crow” Caramandi. A self-admitted lying conman turned government witness who testified in the 1980s that he was a member of the Philadelphia mob. Then became the subject of Anastasia’s first book, Blood and Honor, published in 1991. Before it came out, Richard Behar wrote a Time Magazine story where he reported that he asked Caramandi: “Do you trust anyone?”
Caramandi replied: “I trust Dave Gentile. He’s an FBI Agent from Philadelphia who helped me a lot mentally when I was falling apart. There were times I wanted to take pills and just forget about it. He spent a lot of time with me and encouraged me. I thought the other law-enforcement guys were conning me, but he believed in me. He’s given me the confidence to do things that I’m afraid of. To me, he’s my best friend in the whole world. I owe my life to him.”
——
Before and after John Alite’s book came out, Dave Gentile vouched for him to numerous media figures, helping to sell Alite’s fictional story as a true one. In 2014, Gentile helped get Alite on 60 Minutes Sports. A fraud was being created, as Alite was sold to producers as the individual he testified he was under direct testimony. Leaving out how his façade was shredded under cross-examination.
In a late 2015 interview with John Ricciutti, when asked if George Anastasia was his friend, Dave Gentile said:
“Absolutely. I think I had a little bit to do with George getting into the literary field with his first book, Blood and Honor. Because that had everything to do with Nicky “The Crow” Caramandi. We met many times, in terms of uh, providing the background and the uh, substantive aspects, that went into the formation of that book. I’ve had a longstanding relationship with George. He is an, uh, an honorable man. And, it’s, it’s funny how things become cyclical. Uh, George and I had much to do with the reformation of another individual that was the former muscle for John Gotti Jr. John Alite… I feel very, very strongly about that young man… He’s turned his life around… I’d like to think and I think John would tell you that I helped save his life… John has turned his life around completely. And he needs to be given kudos for what he has done to turn his life around. I’m trying to do whatever I can to, um, uh, align him with uh, legitimate businesses. Because he’s a very charismatic man… He’s done his time… He’s paid his debt to society. He wants to go straight and he should be given every opportunity to do that. Whereas some of these other characters… are never going to be reconstituted as wanting to do what’s right. Um, John Alite has done that, and I’ve got the highest regard and respect for uh, how he’s comported himself since uh, he’s been out of jail.”
John Alite, a diabolical FBI informant, never stopped committing crimes after he got out of a Federal Bureau of Prisons Witness Security Unit in 2012. Since then, he has been involved in organized crimes. Including, but not limited to: Various frauds, drug dealing, assaults, money laundering, tax evasion, blackmail, bookmaking, arson, stalking, and extortion. He has terrorized innocent civilians, including mothers and their children. He also been involved in organized crimes with other former mob associates and career criminals turned government cooperators.
But even though John Alite is a public menace, continuing to perpetuate the fraud they helped create, in 2018 Dave Gentile and George Anastasia appeared in a fictionalized documentary Alite helped produce about himself, called, “The Perfect Gangster.”
——
John Alite is an Imperfect Gangster. One who, according to numerous eyewitness sources, threatened and intimidated the director of that documentary.
——
John Alite, who stated that he was a changed man and “an anti-bullying advocate” when he went on his media tour after his book came out in 2015, publicly defamed numerous people who challenged his verifiably false stories with disgusting lies. Even lying that one individual was raped in prison. Others he said were molested as children. He also threatened numerous people who challenged his lies.
——
Per the terms of his supervised release, which was set to end in 2017, Alite was not allowed to associate with other convicted felons. But he violated it by hanging out with numerous former mob associates and murderers turned government informants. Including Mike Malone and Patsy Andriano, who took part in the John Gebert murder with him in 1996. Which John Alite was not sent back to jail for, even though his Probation Officer, Sentencing Judge, and his handler, corrupt FBI Agent Ted Otto were made aware of it.
John Alite also violated his supervised release by living with a convicted felon in 2016. A twisted miscreant named Jeff Lowman who had tattoos on his arm reading “LA COSA NOSTRA” and “OMERTA,” even though he provided information against his co-defendants in a 2002 Virginia Beach burglary case.
Together: He and Alite conspired to produce podcasts falsely accusing John Gotti Jr. and I of crimes against teenage girls.
Then, they had a nasty falling out. After which, Lowman contacted me, and said: “He’s a lying fucking monster and I learned the hard way.” He said that Alite put him in fear for his life, and he wanted to speak to the FBI.
Jeff Lowman also alleged that John Alite made sexual advances on him. After signing an Affidavit, swearing that he was telling me the truth, under penalty of perjury, in a March 2017 video interview he said that one night, in the dark, Alite walked into his room, buck naked, sat on his bed, and started telling him about his problems.
During that interview, Lowman said that he lived with Alite in New Jersey for about three weeks. Yet less than a month later, in April 2017, he signed the below Affidavit, swearing that he lived with Alite “for approximately two months in 2016.”
——
March 2018: Another degenerate from the cesspool that is John Alite’s world threatened me on Alite’s behalf. Then: It was revealed that this individual was arrested in 2017 for allegedly uploading child pornography to the internet. That individual was also arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor in the 1990s and plead guilty to sending naked pictures of a teacher to the school where she worked in 2009.
Even so: Alite was planning to bring him on television with him in 2018 to speak to kids.
——
Remember how Alite admitted that he lied to his own lawyer, trying to discredit his lifelong friends? One of them, who he accused of possibly being involved in the murder and dismemberment of a girl – which the individual denied – became an aspiring film producer. Who, after Alite’s book came out, still worked with him trying to produce projects about Alite’s life.
During various media appearances, John Alite claimed he was molested by a Catholic Priest as a child. On a December 2014 radio show, Alite said: “And I seen guys being taken advantage of in the prison system, it, it made me recall when I was younger, and I grew up in a neighborhood where we were all abused. We were abused by our priest, the local priest, we were abused sexually by him. We were abused by other people in our neighborhood because it was a rough area.”
Jimmy Alite, and their mother, denied that. In fact, Jimmy said that he believed his “sick” brother, who was Muslim and did not spend significant time growing up around Catholic Priests, adopted a story told by one of their friends who was molested by a Priest. To gain sympathy.
Which did not stop Dave Gentile from doing public appearances with John Alite and speaking to at risk youth with him. According to numerous sources, Alite would even hook Gentile up with women. Telling them what a brave and heroic FBI Agent he was.
——
Some time ago an individual from Alite’s world reached out to me, requesting to put me in touch with a woman who was a government cooperator. I was told she wanted to expose John Alite. Out of curiosity, I called her, as I believed she had the answers to some of my questions. Including about Dave Gentile.
When I asked about him, she said that Gentile had asked for her number. He wanted to take her out. So, she “met him for lunch to see what he wanted.” But that “fucking piece of shit” acted like a creep and got sexually inappropriate with her. She said: “I threw the $50 on the table and I walked out and I never wanna see that piece of shit again.”
Which I did not believe, as I had information from numerous sources that she was dating Gentile. Common sense had me wondering if she was a spy, trying to get information out of me. In part, because I built a website, JohnAliteFacts.com, exposing the truth about John Alite and his degenerate activity. Amongst other things: I was also preparing to write, direct, and produce a documentary about John Alite and his ongoing fraud, titled: The Perfect Gangster?
Notice the question mark at the end. Because within that film, I would have asked the question: Did corrupt former FBI Agent Dave Gentile know that the first draft of John Alite’s book was written by a pedophile when he was selling it to George Anastasia, and introducing Alite as a changed, honorable man to at risk youth?
In The Story Behind Gotti’s Rules, Anastasia wrote: “Alite came to me with a typed manuscript of more than 300 pages that he and another inmate had put together while they were cellmates in a federal prison. The stories were great. The writing not so good. I used the manuscript as a guide for the next year.”
During a February 2015 presentation at The Free Library of Philadelphia, Anastasia said: “When we got together John came to me with a manuscript. He and another, uh, inmate when he was in prison had put something together. They were fascinating stories. Weren’t that well written but they were fascinating and it was kind of the skeleton around which, uh, I was able to build this story.”
——
John Alite’s cellmate in Witness Protection who wrote the first draft of his book was Michael Blutrich. A disbarred, once powerful lawyer and the former owner, in the 1990s, of the infamous New York strip club, Scores.
George Anastasia wrote in his book that “Alite was a friend of Blutrich’s… even before Scores had become famous… Coincidentally, Blutrich and Alite ended up serving time together years later after they had both cut their deals with the government.”
What John Alite and George Anastasia left out of their book and media appearances— and, what Blutrich left out of his own dishonest book and appearances promoting it— where he had the gall to complain that he received more prison time than he deserved after he cooperated— is that besides the titanic fraud he participated in, which 60 Minutes described as robbing “nearly 26,000 mostly elderly policyholders out of their life savings. Ultimately, it was a theft of $440 million – one of the biggest white collar crimes in U.S. history.”
Michael Blutrich admitted to downloading child pornography in the 1990s. He also did not have to plead guilty to more heinous charges because he cooperated with the government.
Michael Blutrich was branded a “pedophile” by multiple news outlets in the 1990s. Including Gang Land News, which Anastasia has written for. He is a good, longtime friend of the website’s owner, Jerry Capeci, who he called “the dean of mob reporters in America” in Gotti’s Rules.
Likewise: John Alite said during his presentation at The Mob Museum that Capeci is “the dean of organized crime, he understands everything in and out.”
Odd things to say, since Capeci covered Alite’s testimony and called him a liar. In a December 3, 2009 column he wrote:
“Don’t get us wrong. It’s a good thing for the good guys to seek justice and prosecute mobsters for old crimes – especially murders – when they’ve gone unpunished.
But before the feds bring those cases, they should make sure they have real evidence, not what Gang Land and at least half of the New Yorkers on the jury – and by some accounts all of them – saw at trial. That is, the too good to be true testimony of John Alite, an admitted drug-dealing killer whose accounts of decades-old murder and mayhem were contradicted at almost every turn.
Again and again, Alite adopted the “he told me to do it” response used so often by turncoats these days. Government witnesses employ it to deflect particularly vicious and senseless crimes they commit away from them and onto the shoulders of the defendant.
“The whole jury agreed he was the least credible witness,” said one juror, a software manager, who told reporters outside the courthouse that Alite (right) seemed too anxious to pin everything he could on Gotti. “That was unanimous.”
“He just wasn’t credible,” said a second juror, a real estate lawyer. “He would tell a story that would be 98 percent accurate… and then said, ‘John told me to do it.’”
Regardless— since they called Capeci “the dean of mob reporters in America,” I must believe that John Alite and George Anastasia believe what Capeci published in a 1998 Gang Land column, titled: “The Pedophile.”
He wrote: “In 1994, Blutrich pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct charges stemming from sexual-abuse allegations from a teenage boy who played on a basketball team that Blutrich managed. The boy’s mother said there were other victims, but that they were “scared off by him because he was a powerful lawyer.” Eventually, she said, she moved her family away from New York.
The boy alleged that Blutrich took him to Scores, gave him a bracelet and other gifts in return for sexual relations. The allegations fueled a probe by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office that uncovered similar charges from other teenage males. Investigators, for example, learned that Blutrich and a 17-year-old boy had rented a Staten Island apartment in 1992.”
Jerry Capeci despises John Gotti Jr. In part, because Gotti Jr. had Private Detectives following him back in the day to scare and get dirt on him. Which I’m sure played a role in why after Alite and Anastasia’s book came out, Jerry Capeci published stories that made John Alite appear credible.
——
That being said: When I brought up to Capeci in 2020 that the first draft of Alite’s book was written by a pedophile, Michael Blutrich, he said he had “some insight that, that probably is true.” He said he believed Alite was cellmates with him. But he still declined to publish a story that the first draft of Alite and Anastasia’s book was written by that pedophile. Instead: He acted like it was “old news.”
It was not. After learning from Jimmy Alite in 2016 that Blutrich was his brother’s cellmate, I tried to ask John Alite if it was true that Blutrich wrote the first draft of his book. But Alite wouldn’t answer. Nor did he accept my offer to meet one-on-one for an in-person interview, with no one else present, even though he made repeated threats towards me. John Alite did say, however, on an April 2017 radio show: “I was good friends with Mike Blutrich… they constantly knock him ‘cause he’s my personal friend… this guy’s my personal friend.”
A “personal friend” who was exposed in a 1998 story in Penthouse Magazine, “USA Confidential,” written by former NYPD Detective John Connolly. Without getting into the graphic, disgusting details— Connolly reported on how Blutrich got next to kids. He wrote that Blutrich, when he was nearing 20, “volunteered to coach a team of 11-to 13-year-old basketball players.” He described how Blutrich would “invite young boys over to his home” where he would perform “experiments” on them and take pictures of them naked. Connolly also alleged that Blutrich displayed pictures of naked boys at Scores.
But, somehow, after he was arrested in 1994 “on numerous felony counts of sexual assault on a minor.” Connolly wrote that in 1995 “Blutrich cut the plea deal of the century. Instead of the possible 25-years-to-life sentence for his felonies, he paid a $100 fine and agreed to a year of psychiatric counseling.”
Similar to John Alite, who was ordered to undergo “Mental Health Treatment” by his Sentencing Judge, Susan C. Bucklew, in 2011. Which begs the question: What else do they have in common?
John Connolly described how Blutrich would pay people off, and the Feds, including Mary Jo White, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, covered for him as he was deemed a valuable mob informant.
He concluded the story writing: “While White busily negotiates pleas with the mobsters Blutrish set up at Scores and National Heritage policyholders bemoan their insurer’s looting, Blutrich gloats from his hideaway. Protected by grateful feds, the record of his pedophilia sealed by his political connections, he has been free to lead his charmed life … free to prey on young boys.”
One of Blutrich’s victims, who I interviewed, described how Blutrich ruined his life. He also believed that Blutrich, who was worth many millions of dollars in the 1990s, paid off his FBI handler, and possibly other Agents, to escape far more serious punishment for his horrible deeds.
Whether or not that’s true: Blutrich’s FBI handler, Jack Karst, admitted in court that he shredded notes of his meetings with Blutrich and was demoted because of it.
Perhaps a more important question, however, is did Michael Blutrich, who lives under a new name after entering Witness Protection, have to register as a sex offender, letting his new neighbors know about his past? Or was that covered up due to his cooperation with the government, when the Feds gave him a new identity?
Even decorated, retired FBI Agent Jack Garcia asked that question:
——
There were many unanswered questions about John Alite in 2017, when I was writing stories exposing the truth about him on JohnAliteFacts.com. One of which, was if it was true that Blutrich was the original author, or co-author, of his book. But, since he wouldn’t grant me an interview, even though he was making up lies about and threatening me, on my own, I went to Brooklyn Federal Court on October 24, 2017, where he would be appearing. To ask him questions outside the courthouse on video.
At first, John Alite declined to come outside. Knowing I was there with a camera phone, he requested that the U.S. Marshals provide him an escort to his car. But, probably realizing how bad that would look, after some time, he came outside, to walk to his car.
In person, I asked John Alite what his relationship was with Michael Blutrich. But he refused to answer. He deflected and hurled insults. He began walking away. So, I walked with him, still attempting to question him. Until, in a fit of rage, he turned to me, and answered a question I asked: “Why did a pedophile write the first draft of your book?”
He said: “Because he knows a lot about John Gotti Jr.!”
Confirming that Michael Blutrich was his original author. See the video clip below:
——
It should be noted that John Gotti Jr. has denied ever meeting Michael Blutrich. Likewise, Blutrich has denied ever meeting Gotti Jr. But, from what I understand, John Alite long held a deep-seated hatred of Gotti Jr. which apparently developed from when Gotti chased him from his crew in late 1991.
John Alite says that one of the main reasons he cooperated with the government in 2007 is because he got wind that his former boss John Gotti Jr. became an FBI informant in 2005. However: Private Investigator Jerry Gardner said that Romie Schulman, a woman he interviewed in May 2009, who Alite had stayed with in 2003, told him that Alite held a grudge against Gotti. That Alite felt Gotti “threw him to the wolves” when he chased him in 1991. Gardner said she told him that in 2003 Alite was already preparing to testify against Gotti to save himself from an expected federal indictment.
——
Joe O’Kane, a man’s man who was accused of being a Gambino family associate, agreed with that sentiment. Serving a life sentence, O’Kane, a childhood friend of Alite’s, refused a get out of jail free card from Agent Ted Otto in return for backing up John Alite and testifying against Gotti in 2009. Instead: He testified as a defense witness, and debunked Alite’s lies at trial. At great risk and cost to himself.
Sadly, O’Kane was murdered in prison in 2010. But before he testified, he wrote in a letter to the defense: “He hated J.G. because J.G. didn’t want to hang around him or have him around. It crushed him… and he was embarrassed...
J.G used to get mad that Johnny A. would use his name at clubs and everywhere else he went. He was told not to do anymore and he lost his clout at those places which embarrassed him, when he tried to get in a club using J.G.’s name and was turned away.”
——
Numerous people I interviewed who associated with Alite after he was released from custody in 2012 agreed that Alite held a grudge against Gotti due to him being chased. That Alite’s anger from that helped fuel the defamation campaign he embarked on against Gotti in the media in 2015. Telling one damaging story after another about him, and his family.
John Alite, with the help of Gentile and others, worked hard getting himself on TV and radio shows, podcasts, and documentaries to sell himself, his stories, and his book of lies. But what I came to realize was that behind it all, John Alite didn’t just want to make money. He didn’t just want to be a celebrity.
John Alite wanted revenge.
After testifying against Gotti in 2009, he sat in the Witness Security Unit contemplating how to get it, and profit from it, once he got out. Apparently, with Michael Blutrich, giving each other massages while they worked on the manuscript.
One cooperator with knowledge of the situation told me: “Alite’s got a pedophile massaging him while he’s writing Gotti’s Rules. Rubbing each other down. Think about how sick that is.”
Whatever the case: The manuscript that John Alite developed with a pedophile, that he hoped would humiliate John Gotti Jr., in many ways, did. Because the book that grew from it that he published with George Anastasia, a top author, who gave it credibility, did not just include an abundance of defamatory lies. It also included some embarrassing truths. Most notably, the reprinting of a confidential FBI 302 memo documenting Gotti’s secret proffer session with the Feds in 2005. Where he provided information on — amongst other subjects — accused high ranking Italian mobsters, a murder that his father allegedly ordered, and another murder that his father allegedly pulled the trigger in.
That memo was leaked to Alite by his corrupt FBI handler, who had become his close friend, Special Agent Ted Otto. Who is now retired. But still despises John Gotti Jr.
From what I understand, many FBI Agents grew to strongly dislike John Gotti Jr. over the years. Much more than they did the average wiseguy. In part: Because of the stories they were told by crime victims and cooperators about how he would bully, rob, cheat, abuse, and take advantage of people weaker than him. Then act like he was “persecuted” by the government, even though he was an arrogant arch criminal who made millions as he left innocent victim after innocent victim in his wake.
But with Ted Otto— It was personal.
He was embarrassed by Gotti and his gentleman defense attorney Charlie Carnesi. A good, humble, affable soul who I wish I’d gotten to know better. Unfortunately, however, he passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2019.
——
Even so: A credible source who dealt with Agent Otto, and signed an Affidavit swearing that he was telling the truth, told me that when they discussed Carnesi’s death, he was shocked, as Otto told him: “I hope it was painful.”
John Gotti Jr. told me that if Otto was on the other side of the law, “he would have been a boss.” Ordering murder after murder and manipulating the underworld landscape like a chessboard. But Otto was not on the other side. He was a Machiavellian FBI Agent who was humiliated when he failed to convict Gotti at four RICO trials in four years and the jurors did not believe his demented star witness, John Alite.
Leading up to what happened in late 2014. That November, John Alite wanted out of the book project. He didn’t want Gotti’s Rules printed. Jimmy Alite said that his brother came to him “crying one night” to tell him so.
Amongst other things: John Alite was worried that people weren’t going to believe the book, and he would be a laughingstock.
Enter Ted Otto and Dave Gentile. They assured Alite people would believe him, and they’d have his back. To prove it, and make his book and story more credible, Otto leaked Alite a copy of Gotti’s secret 302 memo documenting how he provided information to the Feds in 2005. Committing a federal crime in the process. He violated FBI protocol, and Gotti’s civil rights, because by doing so, in many people’s eyes, and the eyes of the street, Otto branded Gotti an informant, and put his life in danger.
It’s doubtful that Otto would have cared if Gotti got killed. Had he, Otto probably would have celebrated with Alite, and then put a case on whoever shot him. Likewise: Had Gotti assaulted or made a violent threat against Alite for waiving his 302 around, Otto might have been able to indict Gotti again.
——
Be as it may: John Alite smiled upon receiving the 302. He picked his chin up, once again excited about the book, as he was given a gift, and a weapon. The 302 was inserted into Gotti’s Rules just before it was published, and, like a torpedo sent out by his handler, he embarked on a defamation tour against Gotti in the media. Getting his twisted revenge, along with Agent Otto, as leaking John Gotti Jr.’s 302 did permanent, irreparable damage to his name, brand, and reputation.
Using as a tool to do so, a book written by a top author, that developed from a manuscript written by a pedophile. Who Alite was still hanging out with, after they were released from the Witness Security Unit.
